What We Do

Services at the Bench

Three distinct services, each scoped to a specific level of work. Prices and schedules stated plainly so you can plan ahead.

Timekeeping assessment

Timekeeping Assessment

A bench appraisal measuring rate, amplitude and beat error across six positions. The case is checked for water ingress and lubrication age is noted. The fee applies toward any follow-on service booked within sixty days.

  • Six-position rate chart included
  • Plain-language written report
  • Three working-day turnaround
  • Water ingress inspection
RM 440 Enquire
Crystal and dial renewal

Scratched or chipped crystals are replaced with correct-profile sapphire or acrylic. Dial surfaces are cleaned, hands are relumed where the original compound has failed, and loose indices are corrected. Pressure testing follows.

  • Correct-profile sapphire or acrylic
  • New gaskets and pressure test
  • Written record of parts exchanged
  • Two to three weeks turnaround
RM 1,320 Enquire

Why Klepsydra

A Workshop Measured in Detail

Traceable Records

Every job produces a written report. Rate figures, parts exchanged and test results are documented so you hold a permanent reference for the piece.

Clear Timelines

Each service carries a stated schedule — three days, two to three weeks, or six to ten weeks — so you can plan around your watch rather than wait on uncertain promises.

Plain-Language Reports

Our written summaries explain what each measurement means. No jargon left undefined, no findings buried in abbreviation.

Pressure Testing

Cases receiving crystal or gasket work are pressure tested before return, with results noted against the original depth rating of the piece.

George Town Address

Walk-in assessments welcome at 118 Lebuh Armenian. The workshop is accessible from central Penang and postage-in arrangements are available for outstation clients.

Assessment Credit

The Timekeeping Assessment fee is credited in full against any service booked within sixty days, so an initial appraisal carries no extra cost if further work proceeds.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked

How does the Timekeeping Assessment work?
You bring or post the piece to our George Town workshop. We place it on the timing machine and record rate, amplitude and beat error in six positions — dial up, dial down, crown left, crown right, crown up, crown down. We also open the case to note lubrication condition and check for water ingress. Results go into a plain-language report with a chart. The entire process takes three working days, and the fee applies toward any service you book within sixty days.
What crystals do you use for renewals?
We source correct-profile sapphire mineral where the original specification calls for it, and flat or domed acrylic where that matches the piece. Profile refers to the curvature and edge bevel — we do not fit flat glass to a domed opening. After fitting, new gaskets are installed and the case is pressure tested against its original depth rating. A record of the crystal reference and test result is included in the handover note.
My chronograph reset is sluggish. Is that a Complication Overhaul?
Usually, yes. A reset that drags or stalls most often points to a worn column wheel, a fatigued jumper spring, or dried lubricant in the switching sequence. The Complication Overhaul covers all three. We strip the module, inspect the column wheel or cam, renew any springs showing fatigue, clean and oil the switching train, then re-time the whole sequence. If you would prefer to start with an assessment first, that is equally sensible — the assessment fee is credited if you proceed to the overhaul.
Can I send my watch by post?
Yes. We accept postal intakes from clients across Malaysia. Contact us first to confirm the scope and we will advise on suitable packaging. We recommend double-boxing with bubble wrap around the inner box, and using a tracked, insured courier service. On receipt we will acknowledge condition and begin work as confirmed.
How is pricing structured and what is covered?
Each service has a flat-rate scope. Timekeeping Assessment is RM 440, Crystal and Dial Renewal is RM 1,320, and Complication Overhaul is RM 3,980. Standard consumables — lubricants, gaskets, cleaning solvents — are included. Wear parts such as crystals, springs or wheels that require replacement are itemised separately and confirmed with you before ordering. No work proceeds on additional parts without your approval.
What does the 24-month service coverage on the Complication Overhaul include?
If a fault develops in the overhauled module within 24 months of collection, we will re-examine the relevant mechanism and carry out corrective bench work at no additional labour charge. It covers issues arising from the overhaul work itself — it does not extend to accidental damage, case damage, or movement components outside the overhauled module. Full terms are stated in the handover document.
