From the People Who Brought Their Pieces In
Zainab Abdul Rashid

My father's watch had not run properly since 2019. A jeweller told me it needed a full overhaul and quoted me a figure with no written breakdown. I came to Klepsydra for a second opinion. They did the assessment first — RM 440 — and the report showed the movement was only slightly off rate and needed lubrication, not a full strip. Much simpler than I was told elsewhere.

I brought a Seiko diver for crystal renewal after dropping it on tile. The crystal had a deep chip on the left side. They sourced a correct-profile acrylic — took about ten days — and fitted new gaskets as part of the service. The pressure test result was on the job sheet. Small detail, but it mattered to me to see the actual figure rather than just being told it passed.
May 2025 · Crystal & Dial Renewal
Mohamad Redzuan
Alor Setar, Kedah
I posted my chronograph from Alor Setar — they were helpful on the phone about packaging. The reset had been sticking for two years. The overhaul took about eight weeks, which they told me upfront. The before-and-after timing traces in the handover document are a nice touch. The reset works cleanly now. I was a bit impatient at the halfway point but the result was worth waiting for.

My grandmother left me a small Swiss clock that I had never wound because I did not know if it was in working order. The assessment was the right starting point — they measured everything and produced a clear report. It showed the mainspring was fine but the escapement needed adjustment. Simple job. The assessment fee was credited when I proceeded with the adjustment work.

I collect older Japanese automatics. Brought in three pieces over two years. The dial cleaning on the second watch was careful — they noted one index that was slightly loose before touching anything and confirmed I was happy for them to correct it. That kind of communication before acting is not always the case at other places I have used.
July 2025 · Crystal & Dial Renewal
Nurul Ain Che Mat
Ipoh, Perak
Sent my husband's annual calendar piece by post after confirming scope by phone. Communication during the overhaul was steady — one update at the midpoint when they needed to order a jumper spring. The calendar now advances cleanly at midnight. The 24-month coverage period gives some peace of mind. Decent experience overall, would use again for the next service cycle.

Case Studies
Three Pieces, Three Outcomes
Case Study 01 · Timekeeping Assessment
The Situation
A 1972 Swiss automatic, inherited and unworn for a decade. The owner was unsure whether to have it serviced or to wear it as-is. No recent service history was available.
The Assessment
Six-position rate measurement showed the watch was running fast by 42 seconds per day on average. Amplitude was below normal range, indicating lubricant breakdown. Water ingress was noted at the crown.
The Result
The owner proceeded with a full service. Post-service rate came in at +4 seconds per day. A correct gasket was fitted and the crown position now seals properly. Duration from assessment to collected: four weeks.
Case Study 02 · Crystal & Dial Renewal
The Situation
A daily-wear diver with a heavily scratched acrylic crystal and two luminous hands where the compound had turned brown and become difficult to read in low light.
The Work
Correct-profile domed acrylic sourced. Dial cleaned. Hands relumed with compatible compound. Indices checked — one was slightly raised, corrected and noted on job sheet. New crown gasket fitted. Pressure test at 10 bar completed.
The Result
Legibility restored. Pressure test result documented. Turnaround: 16 days. The owner noted the lume colour is slightly different from the original — expected for a re-lume, and noted in the report before work began.
Case Study 03 · Complication Overhaul
The Situation
A flyback chronograph that had been serviced elsewhere three years prior. The flyback return had become sluggish and the elapsed-time hand was no longer landing on the zero position when reset.
The Work
Full module strip. Column wheel inspected — two teeth showed abnormal wear. Wheel replaced. Flyback spring and reset lever springs renewed. Switching sequence re-timed and verified across multiple reset cycles. Before-and-after traces taken.
The Result
Reset is clean and repeatable. Elapsed-time hand lands on zero. Timing traces in the handover document show the difference. Schedule: nine weeks from intake. 24-month service coverage period commenced on collection.
